Apogee Stadium at the University of North Texas
The nation’s 25th largest public university, the University of North Texas (UNT) was established in 1890. The university fuels progress, innovation and entrepreneurship for the region as a catalyst for creativity. One of two universities in Denton, UNT requires freshmen to live in on-campus housing, which includes both traditional residence halls and living-learning communities focused on particular student interests, such as jazz, journalism or the health professions. UNT offers more than 300 student organizations, including around 40 fraternities and sororities, and the sports teams, known as the Mean Green, compete in the NCAA Division I Conference. Notable celebrities have attended UNT as well, including Norah Jones, Roy Orbison and NFL Hall of Famer “Mean” Joe Greene. Apogee Stadium at the University of North Texas (UNT) is home to the Mean Green football team. Opened in 2011, the facility replaced the former Fouts Field, the UNT home for football since 1952. Designed by HKS Sports and Entertainment Group and Manhattan Construction, Apogee Stadium features two huge, state-of-the-art video boards, 21 luxury suites, 750 club seats, high-tech facilities for broadcast and print media, banquet rooms and an 1,800-square-foot team apparel store.
