Majestic Theatre

The last remnant of Theater Row, the city’s historic entertainment center on Elm Street, the Majestic Theatre was built in 1929. The palatial theatre boasts three balconies, black-and-white marble floors, twin marble staircases, a 40-foot-deep stage, a state-of-the-art orchestra shell, statues and elaborate wall and ceiling decorations. Seating 2,311 patrons, at one point the Majestic Theatre was the second largest theatre in the country. Today, it is a Dallas Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Back in its heyday, the Majestic Theatres was one of the most sought-after venues in the country, attracting many of the biggest stars of the time—Houdini, Mae West, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne and Gregory Peck—to perform or appear at the premier of their latest movie. Today, the Majestic Theatre Dallas is used for various events, including musicals, plays, pageants, concerts and stand-up comedy shows.
