Whitacre Tower

Formerly One Bell Plaza and One SBC Plaza and also known as One AT&T Plaza, Whitacre Tower is a 37-story high-rise in Downtown Dallas adjacent to the Akard Street Mall. Completed in 1984, Whitacre Tower stands 580 feet tall and serves as headquarters for AT&T and Southwestern Bell Telephone (AT&T Southwest). Currently, the white stone and glass Whitacre Tower is the 13th tallest building in the city. When AT&T moved its headquarters into the tower from San Antonio in 2008, the tower was renamed after Edward Whitacre, Jr., a former chairperson and chief executive. Whitacre Tower also boasts a notable gold statue, Spirit of Communication, which formerly was at AT&T’s New Jersey offices.
