Pegasus Sign in front of Comerica Bank Tower
Formerly Momentum Place, Bank One Center and Chase Center, Comerica Bank Tower is a 60-story postmodern skyscraper at 1717 Main Street in the Main Street District of Downtown Dallas. Standing at 787 feet, Comerica Bank Tower is the third tallest skyscraper in the city (second tallest if the Renaissance Tower’s antennae and spires were excluded), the sixth tallest in Texas and 49th tallest in the United States. Atop the building is a copper cross-vaulted roof, illuminated at night and clearly visible throughout downtown Dallas and the surrounding area. Designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee in 1987, the distinctive and elegant Comerica Bank Tower is architecturally significant and centrally located as a premier office address in Dallas. Shining brightly as the icon of Dallas, Pegasus, the Flying Red Horse, sat for years atop the Downtown Dallas Magnolia boutique hotel, which is located in the one of the city’s most revered structures, the Magnolia Petroleum Company Building. Built in 1922, this 400-foot-high, 29-story building was the city’s first skyscraper and the first high-rise in the United States with air conditioning.
