Rev. A.R. Griggs Park
The evolution of Dallas into a world-renowned city is due to a rich history of visionaries, including courageous pioneers, determined farmers, innovative entrepreneurs, brilliant engineers and extraordinary men of faith like Reverend Allen R. Griggs, an 1870s pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church and creator of the first Dallas high school for African Americans. To commemorate this community leader, Rev. A. R. Griggs Park is an eight-acre green space that marks the historic areas of State-Thomas, Freedman’s Town and Old North Dallas. The park is intended to leave a footprint memorial to the past while enhancing the city’s open space for the community to enjoy and come together in Uptown, the highest density residential neighborhood in Dallas.
