Deep Ellum
An eclectic neighborhood just east of downtown, Deep Ellum was born of the railroads in the late 1800s and has taken root as a diverse, multicultural community. A former hub for blues and African-American arts and culture, Deep Ellum is now home to bars, live music venues, tattoo parlors, art galleries, restaurants and lots of residents. With New York–style lofts for the bold and great shopping for unique gifts and originals, Deep Ellum also is home to fashion-forward, trend-setting style and the birthplace for many new bands. When DART needed to replace the colorful mural-bearing railway underpass entrance to Deep Ellum to make way for the at-grade passenger rail station, DART promised and succeed in providing the neighborhood with a new artistic “gateway.”
