Wallis Hotel at Liberty Park in Grapevine
A replica of the original 1891 building, Wallis Hotel in Grapevine was built in 1991 near the depot at Hudgins and Main Streets. The original hotel served traveling salesmen often called “drummers” who “drummed up” or sought business in town. To recreate the replica, architects used historic photographs of the original building to generate exterior plans around a fully modern and updated interior that served as Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau office until 2012. Purchased by the city in the 1960s, Liberty Park is the site of the historical Torian Cabin, extensive landscaping and the Wallis Hotel. The park is also the site of the city’s first piece of public art, Walking to Texas, a statue and fountain erected in 1996.
