Dallas Farmers Market
In the late 19th century, farmers began selling fresh produce from their wagons in various locations of Downtown Dallas. Around 1900, the intersection of Pearl and Cadiz streets became a hub for this brisk wholesale business, moving large quantities of produce as well as chickens, pigs, goats and eggs. As demand for farm-fresh produce and meat grew and an organized system was needed, the site of the Dallas Farmers Market was formalized and established in 1939 with its first shed before becoming an officially sanctioned municipally owned and operated market in December 1941. Today, the Dallas Farmers Market is a year-round area attraction that features a steady presence of produce dealers, wholesale dealers and local farmers and welcomes monthly yard sales, cooking classes, workshops and seasonal festivities throughout the year. Floral and garden vendors are located adjacent to the market.
