Streetcar 122: Rosie
Currently the oldest streetcar in daily service in North America, Rosie (formally Streetcar 122: the Crescent Rose, which was sponsored by Rosewood Properties and the Crescent multi-business development) celebrated its 100th birthday in 2009. Built by the Philadelphia-based J.G. Brill Co. in 1909 for the streetcar system in Porto, Portugal, the single-pole Rosie was found operating at the San Francisco Trolley Fair by McKinney Avenue Transit Authority (MATA) cofounder Phil Cobb. Similar to the early streetcars that once operated in Dallas, Rosie was purchased and moved to Dallas to become the first car fully restored and used during the MATA opening ceremony in 1989.
