Dallas World Aquarium
Located in the West End Historic District, the Dallas World Aquarium has been the city’s premier aquarium and zoo since October 1992. The upper level of the facility features a reproduction of the Orinoco Rainforest, which serves as an aviary where birds like scarlet ibises and toucans fly freely. Visitors also can see the only public three-toed sloths in the United States and an array of amazing animals like electric eels, caecilians, tamarins, poison dart frogs, Orinoco crocodiles and vampire bats. The lower level houses a collection of aquaria featuring fish, sea anemones, coral, jellyfish and other sea animals from around the world. One signature tank features a 40-foot tunnel for visitors to walk through and observe fish of the continental shelf swimming around them. Notably, the zoo aids in conservation and education efforts by housing many threatened or endangered animals and participating in a cooperative breeding program with other zoos.
