First Baptist Church of Dallas

The only Downtown Dallas church still on its original site, the First Baptist Church of Dallas was established in 1868. Today this Southern Baptist megachurch is considered influential among evangelical Christians in the United States. The church also owns and operates a school, a college, several radio stations and Dallas Life, a homeless mission on the southern edge of downtown that is the largest in modern church history. Located across the street from the original location, the five-block new worship center of the First Baptist Church of Dallas is a spectacle of steel and glass, with touches of red brick and stained glass that tie it to the original adjacent structure. Inside, the new 178,000-square-foot facility features seating for 3,000 people, colored LED lighting and a 142-foot video screen as well as a retractable choir screen and an orchestra platform that can be raised and lowered.
